Getting started

Three steps — and you are on the mat

There is no sign-up, no waiting list and no trial period to book. You can start at the next session in the schedule.

  1. Just turn up

No need to sign up or phone ahead. Find a class in the schedule, come 10 minutes early, and tell the instructor you are new.

  2. Train free for two weeks

The first 2 weeks of training are free, so you have time to work out whether taekwondo is for you. Loose clothes and bare feet are enough — no equipment to buy.

  3. Join if you enjoy it

If you like it, tell the instructor after training. You get a membership form, and you are away.

Why Lyseng

A club with room for all sorts

Many of the children started with us as white belts and are now well up the belts. Several adults have come back to taekwondo after years away — and others started because their child did.

The whole family can train
We take members from the age of 5, with classes for children, teenagers and adults. Several parents have ended up training alongside rather than watching from the side.
You do not need to be fit
The Monday and Wednesday classes have both beginners and experienced students. You train at your own level, and several of our adults started from nothing.
Good facilities
Our own dojang of a good 300 m² on Gunnar Clausens Vej, plus a small dojang, a common room and a kitchen for club evenings.
Competition, if you want it
You can train with no interest in competing at all. But if you want to go to the Danish championships or abroad, there are instructors and classes that can take you there.

What is taekwondo?

Foot, fist, way

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art with roots going back more than 2000 years. The name means foot (tae), fist (kwon) and way (do). With us, four things are trained side by side:

  • Poom Basics

Strikes, kicks and blocks — the foundation under everything else.

  • Poomsae Set patterns

Fixed sequences against an imagined opponent. Also called imaginary sparring.

  • Kyorugi Sparring

Timing and distance against a real opponent — in gear and under full control.

  • Hosinsul Self-defence

Techniques that work under pressure. The aim is to get out of the situation.
